District Men Meet in Whitley City
posted on August 16
The South East District United Methodist Men’s meeting was held Monday, August 14th, at the Whitley City United Methodist Church. This was our Annual Family Picnic evening with around 30 men, women and children in attendance. The members of the Whitley City church provided a wonderful meal in their pavilion beside the church.
After the dinner the group gathered in the church sanctuary for a time of worship and business. Pastor Mike Gregory led the worship with prayer and a congregational hymn. Bro. Beauford Cisco blessed us with two songs, “He’s My Best Friend” and “This Train is Bound for Glory.” Erin Wilson, a high school student who attends Whitley City UMC brought the message, “Faith in Action: Simple Things.” She reminded us of our call to discipleship and how we, as Christians, are called to love, praise and seek Christ in our daily lives. We were prompted to live out Christ’s command to love one another as He loves us. By doing these things we can change the world.
In the absence of our district president, Pastor Jody VanSickle, from the Tri-Cities Men’s group led the business time of the meeting. Pastor David Green, from the Science Hill UMC gave us our treasurer’s report. An offering was taken and will be used to support ministries and missions around the world. We are very thankful to have been able to give $100 to the Mission Offering at the 2017 Kentucky Annual Conference in June. With no other business, we were dismissed after a benediction.
Our next district meeting will be Monday, November 13th at 6:00 pm at the Barbourville First United Methodist Church.
